Raise your hands if your immune system needs a serious OD of vitamins after the holiday season! Yeah.. me too. Anyone who knows me knows that I pretty much always have root ginger, garlic and lemon in my fridge. They are incredible for your immune system – and BONUS! they taste great. Here are 2 of my go-to pick me up drinks: A Ginger-Lemon Shot, and a mean, green Nutribullet smoothie.
Ginger is known for its incredible anti-inflammatory properties, and for aiding in digestion.
Lemons are also an anti-inflammatory food, packed with immune boosting Vitamin-C.
Put em together and what have you got? A kick-ass morning pick-me-up shot.
- Juice half a lemon, and a knob of ginger (around 1 inch in size).
- I don’t have a juicer at the moment, so I improvised by using my lemon squeezer and a garlic press for the ginger.
If you want to amp this shot up a little, try adding a sprinkle of cayenne pepper. The spice will give your metabolism a boost.
I love my Nutribullet. Blend up any combination of of veggies and boom! Instant vegetable boost in one quick drink. Green smoothies and green juices are a staple in my diet. Here is the recipe for my go-to green drink.
- 1 cup of spinach or kale
- Half a green apple
- 1 stick of celery
- 1 inch of root ginger
- large slice of lemon – skin removed
- 3/4 cup water (or coconut water)
- 4 ice cubes
Blend all of the ingredients for 60 seconds, pop a straw in, and enjoy!
